Preparedness

Well, I now have about a month and a half to find a place to live, find affordable tickets and give my apartment (as well as a lot of the stuff in it) to Anna Talley. So far, this has been interesting. I am learning that while there are many apartments listed, they tend to run anywhere in the $900-$3,000 (or more) per month range. It amazes me that there is a such a massive flood of young people to Washington every season to work the grunt jobs (like me). Because of this, the housing people can be as choosy as they wish. Take my conversation with a woman at a complex available to young, female, conservative Christians. You'd think there wouldn't be enough people that even fit that classification to fill up a whole building, but no. It went as follows:
Her-Hello?
Me-Hi, I was wondering if you have any rooms available for this summer?
Her-Do you meet our qualifications?
Me-Yes.
Her-Well, we're all full for the summer. But you can call back tomorrow between 9am and 4pm.
Me- Why? Will they tell me something different?
Her-Uh, no. I guess not.
Despite that, one of my fellow interns (an incredibly nice girl named Mindi) and I are all set to room together at the Johnson Building. (Just type in "heritage housing washington DC" into Google and its the first thing that pops up). It is right by the Senate Office buildings and should work out well. And we are currently working out a Salt Lake City-Denver-Washington flight so that Mindi, Danny (another Enzi intern) and I can fly to DC together.
